Shashank Chouhan

Shashank is a senior editor and a digital native who has worked with some top Indian and international newsrooms. In the BBC he has led planning and deployment teams in India and across the World Service, engaged in commissioning award-winning stories and planning 360-degree coverage of themes and events on multiple platforms in several Indian languages. His background includes years of experience at Reuters and various significant Indian news outlets. He embarked on his journey with BBC World Service as the Planning Editor for all Indian Languages in 2017.

In that role, he helped build production crews for the BBC's newly launched Indian language services. Working with various stakeholders, he shaped the ground reportage and breaking news coverage from India and the rest of the world. He has also worked as a Senior News Editor in the Deployments team of BBC World Service Languages. His work encompassed sending crews to the Ukraine and Israel-Gaza wars, as well as establishing new ways of working for reporting teams around the world. 

As Output Editor in Collective Newsroom, Shashank oversees the day-to-day operations of our news production across platforms, ensuring our content remains impactful, engaging, and reflective of our vision of ‘Credible, Creative, and Courageous Journalism’. He likes long reads and techno beats.
